• Councellors giving away money… What the?

With a new committee anointed and a great guest speaker ready to inspire us, FCYP Maryborough’s second breakfast at Latitude 25 kicked off with a bang.

The FCYP asked Cr Gerard O’Connell to speak on a topic he is well versed in – giving back to the community. As someone who contributes as a member and chair person to a number of different community projects and committees, Cr O’Connell knows better than anyone how rewarding it can be to give back but also how to get our attention!

As he stood in front of the Young Professionals, he held out a $10 note to the first person to get out of their seats and claim it. Some people looked around in hesitation but not to worry, there was no strings attached – the message was:

Don’t be afraid to stand up

It’s important to not only meet challenges head on but appreciate them and take lessons from them.

Cr O’Connell wanted us to ask ourselves “Am I being effective and not just efficient” – it’s one thing to clock in to work and put in the long hours but it’s quite another to actually measure your success and get results and this great lesson is something we can all apply to both our professional and personal lives.

FCYP would like to thank Ray, Jo and the team at Latitude for making this breakfast possible. We would also like to thank our guest speaker Cr Gerard O’Connell for sharing his inspiring story with us. Thank you to all the FCYPs for your attendance and of course welcome to all first-time FCYPs. We hope you enjoyed the breakfast and we look forward to seeing you at upcoming FCYP events – there are plenty of new and exciting things coming up for FCYP Maryborough. Keep an eye on the website for more details.
